Conflict Resolution
What is a "structured conversation" protocol?
Interpreting the other person's strongest, most reasonable version of their claim — not the weakest version — before responding.
A pre-agreed format — agenda, time-boxes, roles (facilitator, notetaker, timekeeper) — that reduces the emotional noise in difficult discussions.
Describe what you noticed, the impact it had, and the outcome you want without exaggeration or blame.
Reveal more information about interests, add variables (timing, scope, risk, payment terms), and look for trade-offs that cost one side little but matter to the other.
Conflict Resolution
What is "double-loop learning" after conflict?
Questioning the underlying assumptions, policies, or culture that produced the dispute, not just the specific behavior. Prevents recurrence.
A shared written record of recurring incidents, triggers, and responses. It externalizes memory, surfaces patterns, and reduces "he said / she said" disputes.
Avoiding. It sidesteps the issue, which can be appropriate for trivial matters or when cooling-off is needed.
A repair attempt is a small action that interrupts escalation, such as apologizing, using humor carefully, or restating a point more respectfully.
