Demand sensing techniques enhance traditional forecasting by using real-time data and machine learning to detect short-term demand changes faster, enabling proactive adjustments. When demand forecasts fail to translate accurately across supply chain partners, the bullwhip effect emerges, amplifying small fluctuations in retail demand into progressively larger fluctuations upstream due to order batching, price changes, and forecasting errors.
